Ethics and Kashrut
What is ethical Kashrut? Does Kashrut extend to the treatment of workers who process, prepare and deliver our food?  What standards are necessary and which ones can be sacrificed to create a just workplace?  Come explore the intersections between food, kashrut, and ethics with Ari Hart, co-director of NYC-based Uri L'Tzedek, the Orthodox social justice movement that led the Agriprocessors boycott. Uri L'Tzedek is currently launching a groundbreaking grassroots initiative, the Tav HaYosher, to bring workers, restaurant owners, and community members together to create just workplaces in kosher restaurants.

Free and open to the public, please RSVP to moishehousedc@gmail.com. For more information about Uri L’Tzedek, check out http://uriltzedek.webnode.com/

Exodus and Revolution, by Michael Walzer, traces the dynamics of revolution, redemption and liberation through the biblical story of the Israelites leaving Egypt for the Promised Land. It also examines later retellings of Exodus by diverse groups including classical rabbinic interpreters and political actors who used the story as the rallying point for their own revolutionary struggles.

Coming to DC from NYC, this 4-week course will unpack Exodus and Revolution through intensive learning in chevrutah (in pairs) and through facilitated discussions. The primary instructor for the course is Rabbi Erica Asch, AJWS alumna and community organizer with the Washington Interfaith Network.
