This Spring, PEPCO filed an application for a rate increase of $51.7 million, the second increase in 2 years. If approved, PEPCO's revenue will rise by 14% despite having consistently failed to provide reliable service. This hike means higher utility bills for poor and working people. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will hold their final public hearing to provide District of Columbia residents the opportunity to express their opinions related to affordable housing, special needs housing, homelessness and community development and public service activities in the District of Columbia over the next five years (fiscal years 2011 - 2015). Call/Email the City Council on November 30th & Urge Them to Hold a Vote and Support the Tenant Access to Justice Reform Act of 2009, Bill 18-104! On November 30th at 11:00 am the DC Council Committee on Housing and Workforce Development will hear testimony about a crucial bill, 18-0104 the Tenant Access to Justice Reform Act of 2009 introduced by Mary Cheh. The Act will allow tenants to sue landlords in Landlord-Tenant Court in order to get court orders requiring the landlords to make necessary repairs to fix poor housing conditions. There is currently NO other way for tenants to do this which creates a horrible distortion in access to justice. | ||

Join Moishe House Silver Spring and The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society as we Welcome the Stranger on Sunday, December 6, from 11am to 12:30pm Welcome the Stranger is an interactive program that gets participants thinking about immigration from a historical and values perspective. We will explore the history of immigration in our nation and among the Jewish people and learn about contemporary issues facing immigrants to America.
