The 2009 Legislative Session in Anapolis: "A Change We Can Believe In?"
TWO MEETINGS - JANUARY 6 and January 11, 2009
The Progressive Working Group announces two meetings to question state representatives on progressive legislative priorities for the 2009 session. Representatives from progressive groups are invited to attend.
First Meeting*: Districts 18 and 20
When: Tuesday January 6th, 7:15 p.m.
Where: Eastern Village Cohousing Community (3 blocks west of Georgia Ave. - 7981 Eastern Ave. Silver Spring 20910)
Confirmed: District 18: Senator Richard Madaleno; Delegates Al Carr, Ana Sol Gutierrez, and Jeff Waldstreicher; District 20: Senator Jamie Raskin; Delegates Sheila Hixson, Tom Hucker and Heather Mizeur.

Second Meeting: Montgomery and Prince George's Counties
When: Sunday January 11th, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Wheaton Public Library, 11701 Georgia Ave., Wheaton 20902. (The meeting room is on the lower level.)
Legislators Now Being Confirmed
Among the legislative priorities that will be presented to legislators at the meetings: the Global Warming Solutions Act, combined taxation reporting for corporations, protection for immigrants, public financing of General Assembly campaigns, Workforce Anti-Fraud Bill, protection for tenants, defunding the ICC, Health Security Act (single payer), bill on electoral integrity and transparency, protection for students from military recruiters, Civil Marriage Protection Act, gender identity and expression protection, and no police spying on lawful activities
Note: The Progressive Working Group is a newly formed coalition of progressive groups, primarily in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, that is working to create a broad-based progressive presence in Annapolis. Jews United for Justice shares information about events & opportunities sponsored by JUFJ allies, or information about local Jewish or inter-faith events and opportunities which concern local social justice issues, local anti-poverty work, or religious teachings about social justice issues.
It is up to our discretion whether or not to list a particular event or opportunity. No events will be listed which take place outside of the greater DC area, or which focus primarily on international issues. We may choose not to publicize events which take place on Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath - from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday), or on Jewish holidays.
