The Jewish community invites all District residents to a mayoral debate with candidates Mayor Adrian Fenty and DC Council Chairman Vincent Gray. Mayor Fenty and Chairman Gray will share their vision for the District, discuss issues affecting the Jewish community, and answer your questions. They will address general concerns ranging from affordable housing, immigration, and economic development to education, social service programs, and civil and voting rights.

This program is co-hosted with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington. Sponsoring organizations include Adas Israel Congregation, American Jewish Committee, American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, American University Hillel, Anti-Defamation League, Bet Mishpachah Congregation, Hillel at The George Washington University, Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capital, Jews United for Justice, National Jewish Democratic Council, Ohev Shalom - The National Synagogue, Temple Sinai, Washington DC Jewish Community Center, Washington Hebrew Congregation, Yachad Non-Profit Housing Organization.

The DC League of Women Voters invites all women and men to join a demonstration  on Thursday,  August 26, 2010, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States which gave women in the U.S. the right to vote.
 
This all-day action in front of the White House and Lafayette Park will also seek to draw national attention to the lack of full voting representation and autonomy for citizens of DC.   Participants are welcome at any time and are encouraged to wear white.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education.

Concrete workers organizing with United Construction Workers (UCW) will rally with community allies at the Consolidated Forensic Laboratory jobsite at 6th and E Sts. SW, Washington D.C. to protest Southland Concrete's unsafe practices, unfair layoffs and poor working conditions, and to demand respect, dignity, and the right to a voice on the job at Southland Concrete.  Elected officials from the D.C. government will respond to workers' calls to commit to pursuing a full investigation of allegations of workplace abuse.

Jews United for Justice shares information about events & opportunities sponsored by JUFJ allies, or information about local Jewish or inter-faith events and opportunities which concern local social justice issues, local anti-poverty work, or religious teachings about social justice issues.

It is up to our discretion whether or not to list a particular event or opportunity. No events will be listed which take place outside of the greater DC area, or which focus primarily on international issues. We may choose not to publicize events which take place on Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath - from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday), or on Jewish holidays.
