Sunday October 19, 2008, 6pm
Woolly Mammoth Theater, 641 D St, NW Washington, DC 20005
In its ten-year history, JUFJ has mobilized thousands of Jews from across the region to pass living wage laws in Maryland and DC, develop affordable housing initiatives and an eviction prevention program in Washington, and - most recently - win the right to a contract for Domestic Workers in Montgomery County.
Our Honorees:
Ruth Messinger - As President of American Jewish World Service, Ruth built an organization dedicated to improving the lives of millions around the world even as it builds a new generation of social justice activists here in the US.
Rabbi Bob Saks - As rabbi at Bet Mishpachah for 17 years, Bob serves a congregation established by Washington's GLBT community. He also fights for DC workers' rights as a member of the Workers' Rights Board of Washington.
Joelle Novey - As a JUFJ activist and a powerful young leader, Joelle is co-founder of two of JUFJ's core programs: Tikkun Leil Shabbat, and Green and Just Celebrations: a Purchasing Guide for Washington's Jewish Families.
