The Universal Paid Leave Amendment Act has passed -
now help us protect it!
Thanks to the JUFJ community, the DC Paid Family Leave Coalition, and every person, family, business, and organization who lent time, energy, passion, and creativity to the campaign, the DC Council passed a precedent-setting paid family and medical leave policy in December 2016 that became law in April 2017.
The campaign isn’t over yet: Within months of passage of the Universal Paid Leave Act, the program is already under attack from big business seeking to weaken and delay access to paid leave for DC's working families.
We must muster our people-power again to ensure that DC's paid leave program isn’t replaced by a watered-down version that leaves out the District's most marginalized communities. DC deserves a real and strong paid family and medical leave program, not program in name or on paper only. Being there when your loved ones need you — or when you need you — is not negotiable!
JUFJ is a lead partner with the DC Paid Family Leave Coalition, a diverse collection of local businesses, community institutions, service providers, and advocacy organizations.
