Every child in DC, regardless of their race, family wealth, or zip code, should have access to high quality and affordable early childhood education provided by early childhood educators who are paid fairly. But right now, early childhood educators – mostly Black and Brown women – are underpaid and their jobs are unstable, while most families still can’t afford the childcare their children need. Join JUFJ to learn about the state of childcare in DC, the Birth-to-Three Law, and the continued challenges facing childcare, and what you can do to improve teacher pay and the affordability of childcare.
Early childhood educators in DC are eligible for a huge pay increase, but not all of them know about it yet. Join JUFJ for a virtual 30-minute lunchtime training on how you can help spread the word to the early childhood educators in your life.
It's DC budget season! Budgets are moral documents: a reflection of our society's values and priorities, and a blueprint for how to set up a fair and just city. Join JUFJ to learn about our priorities for a fair and just DC budget and work on writing testimony for upcoming FY 2023 budget hearings.

Family is absolutely central to Judaism, from centuries of law and wisdom on raising our children to ancient guidelines for respecting our elders. All families, regardless of household income or family structure, should have the resources they need to thrive. But Mayor Bowser is proposing to cut tens of millions of dollars from the portion of the DC budget that helps pay childcare providers a fair wage.
Three months ago, the Mayor proposed a draft budget for next year, and since then JUFJers have been working to ensure that the final budget meets DC residents' basic needs. As the budget cycle ends, join us for a social gathering to celebrate the wins and hard work of budget season.
Families, come celebrate Shabbat with us! On Saturday, August 12, we’ll join Hill Havurah for a special Tot Shabbat for Justice.
