At JUFJ, we are guided by our values and goals of advancing racial, social, and economic justice in our region. We take action all year to build power and work to make change on the issues we care about. And during the three months of Maryland state session from January to April, we and our partners take our stories and our advocacy to legislators to pass legislation and fund key budget items at the state level!
Each year at the Maryland Statewide Kickoff, JUFJers meet to discuss our plans for the upcoming legislative session and how we can take action to improve the lives of Marylanders.
Kickoff was a blast this year, with JUFJers joining us from all over the state. We grounded ourselves in song, values, and our commitment to local work together with our coalition partners. Our amazing JUFJ Working Group co-chairs explained the three issues areas we will be focused on this year: Youth Justice, Economic Justice, and Housing Justice. We explored the power of storytelling and how to transform our personal experiences into compelling testimony for legislators. And, in true JUFJ fashion, we ended our kickoff by making commitments to take action in the weeks and months ahead.
We got off to a great start at the kickoff and we will continue to build on that energy. It takes all of us to achieve big wins! We invite everyone in the JUFJ community to join us and our partners to work for a Maryland where everyone has the safety and resources they need to thrive!
