MDGA22 Pre-Session Legislator Meetings
District-level organizing has become a foundational component of how JUFJ advocates on state-level issues, because it builds strong relationships with legislators that keep them accountable, establishes JUFJ as a source of issue information for legislators, and increases our power by growing the base of people engaged in the political process and advocacy.
JUFJers meet with their legislators before session each year to deepen relationships by sharing our legislative priorities, hearing feedback from representatives, and learning about their priorities.
This year…
- JUFJ held meetings in 20 districts across 7 counties
- 31 JUFJers served as District Captains, responsible for planning and leading the meetings
- 225 JUFJers and 66 legislators participated in the meetings
JUFJers shared their personal connections to each issue area and asked their legislators for their thoughts and analysis of the issues.
I’m almost brought to tears tonight – it means so much to be with like-minded people who are fighting so hard for these critical issues… Thank you so much for the work, the advocacy, and the passion.
This is incredibly organized and informative! Your personal stories really are engaging and helps us to understand why you support what you do!
Thank you for all of your work and advocacy. When I see your priorities, they are close to my heart. Your priorities always represent to me what government should do to take care of its people.
I am so impressed by this meeting. It flowed so well and I know it took a lot of work behind the scenes. Everyone who shared was so compelling and personal.
It’s not every day we get all three delegates in one room. I’m really glad our agenda worked out so perfectly so we could cover everything!
I came to this meeting mostly to learn because I am involved with JUFJ at the county level — but now I am feeling energized to get involved with the state level work.
