This Sunday and Monday mark Tu B’Shvat (the New Year of Trees), a holiday that some Jews celebrate by planting trees and remembering our commitments to the earth and the environment. Join us at 6th & I Historic Synagogue for a Tu B’Shvat seder. JUFJ organizer Jenna and Housing Security Working Group co-chair Charlotte will talk about the exciting Green New Deal for Housing that would help create environmentally sustainable affordable housing in DC. Plus four cups of wine!
Jewish sacred texts recognize that having safe, stable housing is key to a healthy society. Join our Housing Security Working Group meeting in person or on Zoom to discuss our current campaigns, and how we are working with our partners to ensure that everyone in DC has a safe, stable, affordable place to live.
The Mayor’s proposed budget slashed vital lifelines for residents struggling to make ends meet, including emergency rental assistance (ERAP), permanent supportive housing (PSH) for families and individuals that are homeless, and cash assistance for excluded workers. We can fund these programs if the council votes to stop the tax rate cut for wealthy investors! Call the Council on Monday, May 15 before the first vote on the budget and tell them you are counting on them to stop this tax cut and fund these essential programs.
